White Horse Ranch has 4 levels. Each level is 30 days, the forth completing the program. However, if the young lady is not therapeutically ready to level up to the next level of the WHR Level system she will not. Our goal with each young lady we work with is to get the root deep issues identified and dealt with that are causing the outward behavior. Below you can read more about the WHR Level System also known at "Emotional Photosynthesis"
The White Horse Ranch Level System is based on Abraham Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Abraham Maslow was an American Psychologist who was best known for creating Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs, a theory of psychological health predicated on fulfilling innate human needs in priority, culminating in self-actualization. Maslow was a Psychology Professor at Brandeis University, Brooklyn College, New School for Social Research and Columbia University. He stressed the importance of focusing on the positive qualities in people, as opposed to treating them as a negative group of symptoms.
We believe, as Maslow did, that individuals possesses a set of motivation systems unrelated to rewards or unconscious desires. Maslow (1943) stated that people are motivated to achieve certain needs. When one need is fulfilled a person seeks to fulfill the next one, and so on. The earliest and most widespread version of Maslow's Hierarchy of needs includes five motivational needs.
The Grey Level (Level ONE) is a stage where a client is encouraged to come to a neutral level of ambiguity regarding her risky behaviors and/or anger or tension with her current life situation. This is a de-compression phase where negative “surface” feelings and behaviors are paired with teachings of new coping and communication skills, based on each client’s individual needs. This is a phase where they are encouraged to “think like a child” again with a more black and white approach to what has been told to them by adults or what they have believed to be “grey” or “hazy” in their belief systems.
The Brown Level (Level TWO) is a stage where a client is encouraged to go emotionally to the place below feelings, which is where her root emotions are. Each client is challenged to grow new “emotional eyes” and look at how she views all of the events in her life and re-compartmentalize the events in her own interpretation, not based on what adults told her to believe or feel. The symbolism of the “brown” level is similar to the dirt level of a plant or the uncovering of the “roots” of her emotional beliefs about previous events in her life, based on how she feels about the events. This is a level that requires much difficult examination and the need for new light to be shed on those root emotional stressors.
The Green Level (Level THREE) is a stage where new growth and coping skills are appearing within the client’s behavior based on her belief system changes. The Green Level exhibits a type of “emotional photosynthesis” showing a transformation in behavior based on an earlier change of her “emotional eyes” from level Two. On this Green Level, a shift in where the client has re-compartmentalized and made a shift into more global mindset, thus producing a healthy minded, pro-social young woman.
The Blue Level (Level FOUR) is a stage where new growth and coping skills are continuing to appear within the clients behavior based on her belief system changes. The Blue Level is a continuation of new growth and maturity from the previous Green Level. She has learned from where her emotional, mental, spiritual, and physical nutrients are found and has learned it is futile to seek satisfaction in unhealthy entities. On this Blue Level, a shift of Treatment Team’s expectations for her move into more of a global mindset, thus producing a healthier minded, pro-social young woman. Each young woman is now realizing personal potential, self-fulfillment, seeking personal growth and peak experiences.
